Well the cold weather has hit us fast and as usual I had to wait for the coldest day of the year to put up my Christmas Lights. I always tell myself that next year I’ll climb the roof and create a display that Griswald himself would be jealous of! And then I see the giant ball of tangled lights in the box from the attic. Oh well maybe next year.

So let me be the first to say thank you to all the nieghbors who have braved the cold weather and decorated for the holdiay season! The neighborhood looks wonderful!

And for those of you still planning to decorate, put on your long johns and get out there in the weather soon because the association will be judging and awarding prizes.

Decorations will be judge in four categories

Best All around
Most Traditional
Most colorful
Most Animated

And yes I did mention CASH Prizes!

But even more exciting is the prestigious winners sign that will be posted in your yard.

Good luck everybody and if you need inspiration, the movie Family Vacation is being played over and over on station TBS.

Help Decorate Our Entrance

Come join the fun at the Brookhaven Neighborhood Park for a Halloween Costume Contest. There will be two eligible age groups. Ages 1-7 and Ages 8-99.

Other activities include a cupcake walk, a scavenger hunt and other games with prizes.

Major Mike Quick

Many on Brookhaven Court knew Mike Quick as a good natured, easy going neighbor who was always quick with a smile. Mike passed away Wednesday, September 30th at the age of 54. Mike was a Major at the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s office.

Our sympathy goes out to his family. Mike was a good friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Services will be Saturday, October 3rd, 2:00 PM at Smith & Kernkey.

Police lights

Since school started we have had numerous complaints of speeders on Brookhaven Drive. There are several bus stops on that street with lots of kids in the morning and afternoon. I forwarded these concerns to Edmond traffic enforcement. So fair warning, they will be watching.

Coyote spotted in Neighborhood

We would like all our neighbors to be alert and watchful for a coyote. This coyote has been spotted by a number of Brookhaven residents and several residents have been missing their cats. One resident reported driving by the park recently and saw what looked like a dog
hunched down under a tree, then realized it was a coyote. She actually
watched it move after and snatch a cat. She has also seen it in a yard across
the street from the park.

Denise and Allen Smith believe that their 10 year old cat is counted as one of the
casualties as he’s been missing since spring.

Edmond Animal Welfare was contacted and they are going to set a trap in the Brookhaven Park to try and catch the coyote. The cage will be placed in the park for a couple of weeks.

The only hitch in catching the coyote is that the Animal Welfare will use a whole chicken tied to the inside of the cage. They plan to leave the cage in the park for about 2 weeks.
Animal welfare has admitted to not having much luck trapping coyote in this manner but are willing to try.

So everyone, please keep your small animals inside at night. Also make a visual sweep of your yard before letting small dogs or cats outside especially if you have any wooded areas behind your yard.

Mark your calendars, clean out your closets, and make some money! Signs will be at the entrances and Ads in the newspapers, so be prepared for lots of customers! For usable items that don’t sell, we encourage you to donate them to your favorite charity. Many charities will pick them up for you if you call them. Good Luck!

30th Annual Meeting and Block Party!

Party like 1979!

This year marks the 30th anniversary since the final portion of Brookhaven North was platted and developed. So we’re going to have a party for this year’s annual meeting.

When: Saturday, June 27th

What time: 10 AM until 2 PM.

Where: In Brookhaven Park

What to bring: Lawn chair and a side dish.

We will provide the hamburgers and hot dogs!

Games for all ages!

An award will be given for the lognest residing homeowner present.

Officers will give an annual report and hold election of officers and committees for 2009-10.
