First, thank you to the ladies who volunteered to put the event together! Several people have commented that this event is great because it is small enough to be safe because they can keep an eye on their kids. The winner of the 1-4 year olds prize egg was Courtney Roush. The winner of the 5-8 year olds prize egg was Sophia Ratcliff. The winner of the 9-12 year olds prize egg was Dillan Wilson.

Volunteers needed for ‘Easter in Park’

If you read the last newsletter and were considering volunteering, please call soon. Without volunteers the ‘Easter in the Park’ will not happen next Saturday. We continue to offer this event because it is small enough for parents to keep an eye on their kids. The crowds at ‘community wide’ egg hunts have grown too big. Your assistance is appreciated. Volunteer ‘bunnies’ please call me at 330-1662 to help stuff & hide eggs or hold some games. Thank you, Allen

2011 Christmas Light Winners

Competition was tougher this year with some people out adding lights on the last afternoon to cinch a win. The volunteers drove around every street and then mulled over the lighting over some mulled hot apple cider. Several of the winners had not won before and their efforts definitely showed. There were several honorable mentions we want to thank at the end. Best Lit Street: Sunny Brook Drive, with lots of homes were well lit and very festive. Darkest Alley: My own Brookhaven Court, maybe next year… Ok, now the winners: Best All Around: Bobby Decker & Carol (CJ) Price, 2500 Valley Brook Drive. They got those reindeer trained to fly just in time! Most Colorful: Phil & Mary Spurlin 823 Sunnybrook Drive Lots of multi-color lights and tree wrappings. Most Animated: Bob and Barbara Randall, 2400 Valley Brook Drive Very traditional animation animation and lights that everyone enjoyed. They wanted to thank all the help from kids and grandkids! Most Traditional: Randy and Linda Surtees (and their son helped), 802 Brookside Ave. Honorable Mentions: Ronald and Diane Krakowski, 2508 Brookdale Ave. – the ladies loved the red tree. James and Jamie Minter, 2308 Brookdale Ave. – great traditional look. [...]

Covenant Rumors and Questions

This is just a short note to address a few rumors and outright lies floating around the neighborhood. Rumor: The vote was defeated therefore there is no HOA. Truth: The changes to the covenants and the mandatory amendment passed in Plat 1. It did not pass in Plats 2 and 3. What that means is that from this point forward, anyone who buys a house in Plat 1 or for those owner’s in Plat 1 who opted in by vote will be bound by the mandatory provisions. All owner’s in Plat 1 will now be bound by the new consolidated covenants regardless of their vote. Rumor: The covenants expired forever in 1997 therefore there is no HOA. Truth: The language in the original covenants states that the covenants were to run for 20 years and then automatically renew. This myth was spread in the form of ‘loaded question’ arguments by someone opposed to the recent covenant changes. Even after explaining the true covenant language at informational meetings, that person continued to print and distribute incorrect information. So yes, every lot in Brookhaven has covenants as follows: Plat 1 has voted to update the covenants, Plats 2 and 3 are still [...]

Covenant Vote Results

This election shows that a majority of Brookhaven owners are concerned about their property and their neighborhood. They were willing to move forward with updating the existing covenants and creating a better association. We are pleased to announce that both of the amendments passed in Plat 1. The amendments failed in Plats 2 & 3 by a narrow margin. Overall 54% of the lots voted. Lot owners had three options on the ballot. Option 1 & 2 on the ballot concerned the HOA amendment to create a mandatory homeowners association for the neighborhood. Option 3 on the ballot was the CCR amendment to update the existing covenants and to consolidate the 3 sets of covenants into one uniform set. Below are the final results. Final Count Plat 1 Plat 2 Plat 3 Number of Lots 80 57 134 Votes required to pass: 48 35 81 Ballot Item: 1. Votes for HOA, successor in title. 16 12 30 2.
