One of the most visible and important parts of the Homeowner’s Association is to take care of our common grounds.  Day in day out, we drive home without thinking much of how, when, or who is actually mowing our frontage grass along Bryant and Covell.  The fact that we can drive by and not notice is a silent testament to the great job Wayne Hlinicky of Oklahoma Lawn Care is doing for our neighborhood.

The last two years he has been contracted to mow the frontage grounds surrounding the addition. Chances are you’ll see Wayne out on a Friday or Saturday on his Ariens lawn mower.  If you do see him, give a friendly honk or wave to tell him how much you appreciate his service.

Wayne also graciously accepted to be our first advertiser for the website and newsletter.  He stopped by the other day and I asked him about his back ground to let our neighbors learn a little bit more about him.

Mowing is actually his second career.  He was approaching the end of his career with the Oklahoma City police department when he started to begin doing landscape work in 1995.  It was something he knew well from mowing neighbors yard for money beginning at 8 years old.  He expanded and started doing more with his full retirement from the police department in 2000.  And now Wayne told me he is expanding his options every further by pursuing a Horticulture degree through OSU.

I asked Wayne for some lawn care tips and this is what he suggest for a beautiful and healthy lawn.

Lawns should be mowed once a week. The height of the grass is dependent on the type. Fescue must be kept at a higher height. If you have Bermuda, the cutting height can me much closer.

Fertilize once a month. In summer, I use a ammonium nitrate blend. In winter I use a potassium blend to feed just the roots. Granular fertilizer is better because it disperses slowly. Be careful with sprays that can miss the target in high winds, damaging your shrubs and flowers.

Although your grass is dormant in winter, water one inch, once every two weeks to keep the roots in healthy condition.

Wayne is ready to take your call for an estimate right away!
