Some neighbors have expressed concern over seeing the sprinkler system running the last few weeks. The board appreciates every one’s concern.
I haven’t seen any ice on the road, but pleases let an officer know immediately if any ice builds up on the roadway. That’s our biggest concern if the sprinklers were icing the roads. If it’s icing the grass and plants that’s no problem. Several landscape experts have advised us to at least water 1 time every two weeks. This is to help preserve grass root health, bushes, flowers, etc. Since we’ve had a dry winter, it’s especially important to maintain watering.
I called Bob Decker, who is taking care of the sprinklers, and he said he would take a look. He also advised that we continue to water and that it
won’t effect the sprinkler heads.
Thanks for everyone looking out for our nieghborhood!
Denise
Hi, I’m Wayne and the owner of Oklahoma Lawns & Landscapes. We currently are taking care of the entryways to your addition. I have noticed some concern about the sprinkler system being on during the winter months. This was done at my request. Even though the grass is dormint the root system is still growing and the roots need the moisture. During the winter months you should run your sprinkler system once every two weeks applying 1″ of water per zone. On cold days when the temps are 32 or below go ahead and turn off your system and when the temps are back up turn the system back on.
When ice or snow are covering the sidewalks, driveways and roads do not use salt or any type of product containing salt. Salt damages the concrete and asphalt surfaces and will kill grass and plant material. I use ammonia nitrate (34-0-0 or 46-0-0) You can use other fertilizers that are high in ammonia nitrate to melt the ice and snow. It takes a little more time to do the job but you will not kill the grasses, plant material or damage the concrete surfaces. The run off will feed the root system and plant material. If you have any questions you may contact me. (405) 818 1828 Looking forward to meeting the residents of Brookhaven while we are working on your entryways this year. Wayne
